The history of D&M Design & Fabrication
D&M was founded in 2010 when Dave & Mike’s previous employer closed its doors. They found a growing need for fabrication companies, and thus, D&M was born.
New Press Brake Added
In 2017, we added an additional press brake machine. We now had four press brakes with differing capabilities, allowing us to fold a variety of sheet metal sizes and thicknesses, the addition of a new press brake meant we could also grow the department making us more efficient in our work.
New Bystronic Laser Installed
In November 2017, we upgraded our laser cutter to the new Bystronic Fiber 10000. This increased productivity and improved the nominal sheet size of the metal we could cut as well as the variety and thickness of metal we could cut. We also installed the ByTrans automatic loading and unloading machine. This allowed us to increase our workflow and improve efficiency in the laser cutting department.
New Press Brake Added
In June 2015, we added another press brake machine, the new Amada HFE 3i 2204, to our growing CNC folding department. This meant we now had three press brakes on hand to take on the variety and ever-increasing amount of work we had coming in.
Started New Expansion
The growing need for high-quality detailed CAD drawings meant that we needed to grow our drawing team. In October 2014 we started work on a new office expansion, adding a new upstairs office area for the growing team.
In May 2014, we took delivery of our first deburring machine, the NS Maquinas DM1100 ZCK; this enabled us to grow our services and add complete deburring solutions to the range of services we had on offer.
Additional Storage Added
A brand new racking system was installed with the growing need for additional storage solutions. It allowed us to store various sheet metal options in-house. Enabling us to complete jobs quicker because we had larger stores of sheet metal available
New Laser Installed
In March 2012, D&M installed our first laser cutter, the Bystronic ByLaser 3300, growing our existing services. D&M now offered in-house CAD design, welding, CNC folding, powder coating and laser cutting services to our customers.
With the services we had on offer growing D&M needed to expand and build an extension; in February 2012, we completed work on a new building extension, knocking through the wall of the existing unit and extending it.
New Press brake added
In September 2011, we added a new Amada press brake machine to the CNC folding department; we now had 2 CNC press brakes to take on the growing and varied amount of work we had coming in. this enabled us to expand this department, increasing our workflow.
Powder Coating Oven
In July of that same year, D&M installed a built-in powder coating oven adding to the growing number of services we had on offer. This allowed us to add high-quality finishing services to the range of services that we had on offer, quickly growing the services we had to offer.
D&M Design & Fabrication was established by Michael Barratt and Dave Mawer
Starting out by working out of a shed on Dave’s family farm, the two worked around the clock to meet the growing demands of the clients. They started with just one press brake machine and travelled to Leeds late at night and early in the morning to use another company’s laser cutter out of hours.
