Welcome to another instalment of our employee spotlight series. This month’s spotlight is our Despatch Manager, Ty. We asked Ty a series of questions to get to know him better.
How long have you worked at D&M, and what brought you here?
I have worked at D&M for two and a half years. I came here looking for a new and exciting opportunity after having previously worked as a tiler for many years.
What does your job entail?
My job involves a variety of different things. I work closely with sales and production to ensure that the correct transport has been ordered when required. I also work with production to ensure jobs are delivered on time. I am in charge of making sure orders are organised and ready for delivery via post, our vans, or third-party transport. I also ensure that all lorries are loaded/unloaded correctly.
What do you like most about your job?
I really enjoy the fact that every day is completely different, from organising delivery routes depending on customer times and distances to seeing all the work we do; the products we make are amazing and interesting.
What is working at D&M like?
D&M can be a very busy and, at times, stressful place to work, but it is also an extremely enjoyable place. The staff really help to make it an enjoyable place to work, knowing that every day will be a laugh and that everyone will pull together and work as a team to help out when a job needs to be completed.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I’m not sure; half the time, I don’t know where I will be in 5 minutes. I am not one for planning, I just do things.
What was your very first job?
My first job was while I was at school. I started working in a kitchen, washing pots and prepping food.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love going to car shows when possible and watching films or TV shows.
What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?
I am currently watching Bones and a series called Sweet Tooth.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I would love to travel to Europe, maybe take some time off work (maybe a month) and go to see all the places that tourists don’t go to; there are so many hidden gems out there.
