Technology has drastically changed manufacturing over the years, and laser cutting is one big innovation that has changed the manufacturing process. Laser cutting enables manufacturers to cut sheet metal precisely and intricately. In this blog post, we will explore the fascinating world of laser cutting, its benefits and how it has reshaped modern production methods.
The basics of laser cutting
Laser cutting is a powerful process that harnesses the power of light to shape materials. It uses a highly powerful laser beam, run by computer-controlled systems, to slice through materials with astounding accuracy. The focused energy of the laser delivers smooth and precise cuts that transform raw materials.

The Advantages of Laser Cutting:
Unparalleled Precision:
Human error is drastically reduced, so components are highly accurate and easily repeatable. Laser cutting offers an unrivalled level of precision to manufacturing.
Versatility:
Laser cutting is adaptable, effortlessly changing to work in a wide range of situations and materials. Laser cutting’s versatility is unmatched, making it the go-to choice for a range of diverse applications.
Minimal Material Waste:
Laser cutting drastically minimizes material waste, leading to a more sustainable and cost-effective production process. Less waste helps the environment, saves resources and reduces project costs.
Faster Production:
In a fast-paced world of manufacturing, laser cutting takes the lead. Automation and computer control allow laser-cutting machines to work at really fast speeds, increasing productivity and shortening lead times.
Safe and Clean:
As laser cutting is predominately a non-contact process, it minimizes physical interactions with materials, ensuring a safer workspace, reducing the risk of contamination, and creating a cleaner workspace for the manufacturing team.

With its unmatched accuracy, versatility, and reduced material waste, laser cutting has transformed how we create and design products. Embracing this cutting-edge technology, industries across the board are witnessing unprecedented growth, streamlining production processes, and delivering exceptional results. As laser cutting continues to advance, we eagerly anticipate the possibilities it will unveil in the future of manufacturing.
D&M’s Laser Cutting Capabilities
At D&M, we always strive to use the latest and greatest technologies, so we installed a state-of-the-art 10kw Bystronic Fibre Laser Cutter with full sheet handling automation.
This allows us to cut a wide range of metals at differing thicknesses. We can cut up to 30mm in Stainless Steel and Aluminium, 25mm in Mild Steel, and numerous other non-ferrous metals such as Brass, Copper, and Titanium. The latest Bystronic nesting software allows us to cut with an extremely high degree of accuracy. This ensures maximum sheet usage with minimum waste.
