Welcome to another instalment of our employee spotlight series. This month’s spotlight is on one of our welders/fabricators, Will. We asked Will a series of questions to get to know him better.
How long have you worked at D&M, and what brought you here?
I have worked here since November, but this is my second time working here; the first time, I worked here for 8 years. I left because I was given an opportunity to grow and try another aspect of the industry. After successfully exploring that avenue, I realised that, ultimately, I wasn’t happy doing what I was doing, and I missed the work I did here at D&M. After a chat with Dave and Mike one Friday afternoon, I made the decision to come back. I love being back here; it’s like I have never been away.
I originally came to D&M after working at a local agricultural fabrication company, I saw Dave and Mike setting up D&M and managed to get involved pretty early on.
What does your job entail?
My job is pretty varied. It involves welding, fabricating, and working with various types and thicknesses of sheet metal. It’s also really hands-on, making a variety of different things.
What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy welding and fabrication. I enjoy the job and location, and I also really like the opportunities I get working here, which have nothing to do with fabrication. I am a big fan of motorsports, and we do a lot of work with motorsports here. I have been allowed to help in bike trials and to meet some legends of the Isle of Man TT.
What is working at D&M like?
D&M is fast-paced and busy, and there is always plenty to do. Working at D&M demands high standards, as work needs to be of a high quality.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I will be happy if my home-life, work-life and everything else is the same as it is right now – it’s perfect. Maybe a brother or sister for my daughter Tilly.
What was your very first job?
My very first job was a paper round.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I like spending time with my family—my daughter, Tilly, and my wife. I also like to keep fit by running.
What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?
I watch a real variety of things but nothing in particular to recommend.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I have been lucky enough to do many of the things on my bucket list. I have watched the Isle of Man TT and visited many holiday destinations that my wife, Jess, and I have wanted to visit. I am sure more places will come up in the future – I look forward to taking Tilly to see some of the world.
