Welcome to another instalment of our employee spotlight series. This month’s spotlight is on Santosh, one of our Mechanical Design Engineers. We asked Santosh a series of questions to get to know him better.
How long have you worked at D&M, and what brought you here?
I have been working remotely from India with D&M for around 3 years.
Before joining D&M, I had similar work experience, so this role was a great opportunity to continue working in mechanical design and fabrication projects. I was also excited by this opportunity to work with a highly skilled and experienced design team where I could further develop my design and problem-solving skills.
What does your job entail?
My role involves creating Sheetmetal 3d parts and assemblies using SolidWorks and preparing manufacturing drawings. I work on the complete process from developing components and assemblies to preparing files for laser cutting and nesting, making sure everything is ready for fabrication.
What do you like most about your job?
What I like most about my job is working in a fast-paced environment and solving design challenges.
I enjoy meeting deadlines and making sure the designs are ready on time so the product can be delivered within the required timeline.
What is working at D&M like?
Working at D&M is a great experience. The team is supportive and professional, and there is a strong focus on teamwork and quality. Even though I work thousands of kilometres away from the UK, communication and collaboration with the team is very smooth.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I see myself gaining more experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer.
Working on more complex projects and improving my design and problem-solving skills. I also see myself continuing to work with D&M and contribute to the company’s growth for the long term.
What was your very first job?
My first job was creating commission-based pencil portrait sketches. It helped me to develop patience, attention to detail, and creativity.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, being an introvert, I enjoy watching shows on Netflix, singing Bollywood songs, and spending time relaxing with my family.
What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?
Recently, I have been watching a few thriller shows on Netflix, especially The Night Agent
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
One thing on my bucket list is to visit Paris and Switzerland with my family.
I have never travelled outside the country before, so it would be a very special experience.
