Employee Spotlight: Lorridana, Sales Team Manager

Welcome to another instalment of our employee spotlight series. This month’s spotlight is on our Sales Team Manager, Lorridana. We asked Lorridana a series of questions to get to know her better.

How long have you worked at D&M, and what brought you here?

I have worked at D&M since 1 December 2021. I have known the business since its infancy, with my brother Mike being one of the Directors. After being in my previous place of employment for around 19 years, I was ready for a change and to learn something new. I needed a role where I felt challenged and where I could add value. I thought D&M was the perfect fit for me.

What does your job entail?

I am responsible, alongside my colleagues for quoting jobs for existing and new customers. There is always a tight window of opportunity for winning jobs, so time is of the essence. Quoting always requires us to seek material from different sources/suppliers; we make sure our prices are as competitive as possible. Quoting also requires us to consult with all different departments where necessary to ensure we have all aspects of the quote accounted for. It is vital for our working relationships with our customers for us to maintain and build new relationships with them, this is a key part of the quoting role too, this helps us to receive the important feedback from our customers when we issue quotes to them.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy the variety of jobs which I see coming through for quoting. It is important for me to keep learning (which happens daily), every day at D&M is a school day, this keeps it interesting for me, I enjoy learning, gaining more experience and confidence. I know during my time at D&M I have learned a lot. I enjoy continuing to learn something new about the industry.

What is working at D&M like?

The best thing about working at D&M is most importantly to me, I enjoy my job. I enjoy the challenges it brings, there will be jobs I have never seen before but working through them with the Directors or Drawing office staff, it proves there’s always room to learn if you are willing to do so. Without the support from all areas of the business, from the Directors, office staff and the workshop, all these teams add value to my role, they always have the time to answer questions, troubleshoot etc. it is refreshing to see.

D&M feels like a big family, I am lucky enough to also work alongside my brother, sister-in-law, nephews, niece and husband.

Everyone at D&M brings so much value; I am proud to be part of such a talented team.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself continuing to build on my knowledge within the industry and continue to grow in my own confidence and abilities. I would like to continue to progress within the business and contribute to its success and growth.

What was your very first job?

I worked at a small family run preservative business, just outside of Masham. I used to help with selling the product on local market stalls, the lemon curd was particularly delicious!

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

As a wider family we partake in Autograss Racing which allows us to spend time together with family and friends.

I enjoy dress making when I have the time do this, usually when I start a project it can consume all my weekend because it is so addictive!

Outside of these, I enjoy walking, reading, gardening, just to name a few.

Can you tell us a fun fact / fun story about yourself?

I completed for charity the London Moonwalk Marathon for Breast Cancer Awareness several years ago (too many to mention). This involved dressing up in a funky outfit and of course wearing a decorated bra the whole way around. Whilst the pressure of training was intense it was such a fun but exhausting experience, it took me around 8hrs to complete the 26.2 miles but was well worth it, I raised around £1.5k for the charity, which I was super proud of.

What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?

I never get bored of Downtown Abbey, I can watch that over, and over again!

I just finished watching Inventing Anna on Netflix, which was really good. I am currently watching Reacher (after having read some books), but I’m also looking forward to the next Clarkson Farm, season 3, which is due out next month.

I have a lot of reading to do, my books keep piling up, I’m currently reading ‘Someone You Know’ by Shari Lapena.

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Italy has always been somewhere I would like to visit, it could maybe be my next holiday destination!
