Welcome to another instalment of our employee spotlight series. This month’s spotlight is on Julie, our cleaner. We asked Julie a series of questions to get to know her better.
How long have you worked at D&M, and what brought you here?
I have worked at D&M for 2 years and 2 months.
What does your job entail?
My job involves dusting, vacuuming, mopping, emptying bins, and ensuring that toilet areas are clean, as well as maintaining a clean and tidy work environment. I also restock supplies and ensure hygiene products are replenished.
What do you like most about your job?
The sense of accomplishment from making a visible difference and the satisfaction of creating clean and organised spaces. The ability to work independently, as well as feeling a part of the D&M team.
What is working at D&M like?
Great team spirit, with everyone supporting each other; there are also great social aspects, a sense of belonging within the company, and a happy environment to work in.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself continuing as a valued member of the team, having built up a strong reputation for quality and reliability. My goal is to continue making a positive impact on the cleanliness and overall environment of the workplace.
What was your very first job?
My first job was working in a chicken factory in Ripon, Buxted Poultry. I worked there from 1977 – 1991. There was always great banter and social outings where the bosses would take us to the local pub on a Friday night.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Having days out with my husband, going to see my son and daughter-in-law and taking the grandchildren out.
Can you tell us a fun fact / fun story about yourself?
I have recently started sleepwalking. There have been a few occasions when I have stayed in a hotel and woken up in the hallway outside my room. I had to knock on the door to get my husband to let me back in.
What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?
I love watching heartbeat.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I want to visit New Zealand and meet the Māori, and throw a boomerang (lol).
