Employee Spotlight: Flavio, Junior Design Engineer

Welcome to another instalment of our employee spotlight series. This month’s spotlight is on one of our Junior Design Engineers, Flavio. We asked Flavio a series of questions to get to know him better.

How long have you worked at D&M, and what brought you here?

I have been with D&M for nine months now. Having recently finished a degree in mechanical engineering, I came to D&M looking for work that would give me insight into the manufacturing processes involved in product development.

What does your job entail?

My job mainly involves preparing models for the laser cutting machine and modifying existing customer models to suit the standards of our machinery so we can produce the parts.

What do you like most about your job?

The number of projects I work on gives me a broad insight into different aspects of the manufacturing industry, which I find really interesting.

What is working at D&M like?

Working at D&M, particularly in the drawing office, is great because it is a very calm and motivating environment.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully, I would like to get an accreditation as a chartered engineer.

What was your very first job?

My first job was as a volleyball referee in Italy; I did this for 2 years. It had its good and bad moments; you get a lot of boos when you are a referee.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I really enjoy basketball and have recently joined a basketball team so that I can play regularly.

Can you tell us a fun fact / fun story about yourself?

My fun fact is that I easily forget names.

What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?

I am currently reading an interesting book about science from the year 1400 to the present day. I would recommend it, but I guess it really depends on your taste in books as to whether you would enjoy it or not.

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

One day, I would love to go to Space.
