Welcome to our new employee spotlight series; each month, we will spotlight a different team member, allowing you to get to know us. This month’s spotlight is on Claire, our finance manager. We asked Claire a series of questions to get to know her better.
How long have you worked at D&M, and what brought you here?
Nearly 13 years now. I was introduced through a friend of Dave’s mum, who I worked for part-time as they knew I was looking for more hours, and D&M was starting out, so they wanted someone a couple of afternoons a week. That turned into every afternoon within a few weeks and moving to D&M full-time within a year, and here I still am!
What does your job entail?
All sorts! I’ve helped with most aspects of the business over the years. Currently, I focus on the monthly accounts; payroll; some HR; supplier payments; chasing debtors; training office staff; managing company vehicles; agreeing on insurance, service & utility contracts & helping with production planning.
What do you like most about your job?
Making sure everything balances at the end of each month, everyone is paid in good time, helping the company succeed and grow. I have great work colleagues and amazing bosses, too, of course!
What is working at D&M like?
It is enjoyable, fast-paced and ever-changing due to the high demand for our services. The days are varied, and seeing the finished products leave the workshop and all the paperwork matched up after all the planning and efforts in production is satisfying.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Most likely still here, probably with a few grey hairs and hopefully no more broken bones haha.
What was your very first job?
A kennel maid at weekends during school and then a Trade Stand Officer for the Great Yorkshire Show after University.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Being outdoors, walking my dog, riding my horses & baking cakes
Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
It’s not much fun after four operations, but the front of my right tibia has spent the last 3.5 years in two halves!
What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?
I’m not a massive TV fan & not got much spare time between work and my animals, but I’m currently occasionally reading Finding my Feet by Claire Lomas & a book on Health Kinesiology.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I don’t have one, but I’ve always wanted to holiday in the Caribbean or Maldives.
