Welcome to another instalment of our employee spotlight series. This month’s spotlight is on Carl, from Quality Control & Training. We asked Carl a series of questions to get to know him better.
How long have you worked at D&M, and what brought you here?
I have worked at D&M for 10 years, having previously worked with Dave and Mike before they became D&M. I was unfortunately made redundant, and Dave and Mike kindly invited me down to look around and join the team. I have been here ever since.
What does your job entail?
My role here is that of quality control and training. The quality control aspect of my job means ensuring that everything leaving D&M does so at the highest standards. It’s essential to us that everything we produce is of outstanding quality.
The training aspect of my job enables me to work with all departments adding additional support to both new and existing staff where needed; it’s such a joy to watch team members grow and learn as they progress through the company.
What do you like most about your job?
The thing I like most has to be the staff, we have such a good team here at D&M that it makes coming to work a really enjoyable experience. I also really enjoy the industry that I work in, which helps too.

What is working at D&M like?
D&M is a rewarding workplace; we have such a great team here that every day is a fun experience. People work really well together, and it makes working at D&M a great place to be. It helps that we have a solid and supportive management team too.
I have thoroughly enjoyed working here for the last 10 years, and I can honestly say that if I didn’t think that, I wouldn’t have been here as long as I have.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I generally don’t like to look too far ahead. I try to take it day to day and week to week. So, in all honesty, I really don’t know where I will be in 5 years.
What was your very first job?
My very first job was that of a paper boy – I did that for 2 years.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, I love nothing more than spending time with my family, that’s really important to me. When I am not with my family, you can find me at the football; I am a Middlesborough Football Club fan and season ticket holder, so I can often be found supporting them at the Riverside Stadium.
What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?
I am not really a TV fan, but if I had to watch something, it would be football, but I am more often at the game rather than at home watching it on the TV.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
A round-the-world ticket would be number one on my bucket list. I would also love to visit Kruger National Park in South Africa; it would be amazing to go on a safari there and see some fantastic wildlife.
