Welcome to another instalment of our employee spotlight series. This month’s spotlight is on Akash, our Nesting Engineer. We asked Akash a series of questions to get to know him better.
How long have you worked at D&M, and what brought you here?
I have been working at D&M since August 2025. What brought me here was, honestly, a bit of luck. In my previous organisation, I was facing some health issues because of the long daily commute and travel distance. At that time, I was looking for an opportunity that would reduce travelling and give me a better work-life balance, and luckily, I came across D&M.
What does your job entail?
My job mainly involves preparing nests for laser cutting and making sure jobs are processed correctly for production. I also work closely with the Drawing office team and laser team to sort out any issues related to nesting, drawings, material usage, or urgent job priorities so that production runs smoothly.
What do you like most about your job?
What I like most is finding efficient ways to improve nesting and material usage, as it feels rewarding when you can save time and material through better planning. Also, every day brings different jobs and challenges, so the work does not become repetitive.
What is working at D&M like?
Working at D&M has been quite a different experience for me. This is the first time I have worked in an environment where I am closely connected with a team based so far away, yet the communication and coordination still feel very smooth. It is also satisfying to see the work I do being produced on a daily basis, as it makes the job feel more meaningful and connected to the actual production process. The environment is supportive, and working with different teams has helped me improve both technically and professionally.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
More than anything, I would like to still enjoy the work I do and continue learning along the way. I tend to focus more on doing my job properly in the present rather than planning too far ahead, but in five years’ time I would hope to have grown further within D&M, taken on more responsibility, and developed both technically and professionally with the company.

What was your very first job?
Honestly, my very first job was working in a clothing shop when I was around 14. It was my first experience of earning money and dealing with customers, so I still remember it quite well. Professionally or technically speaking though, my first proper role was as an Executive Design Engineer in the sheet metal industry.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and catching up with friends whenever I can. I also enjoy travelling and exploring new places whenever I get the chance, even if it is just a short trip or ride.
Can you tell us a fun fact / fun story about yourself?
A funny thing about me is that whenever I try to do something good or helpful, it somehow ends up going wrong and I usually end up in trouble. My friends believe even my good intentions come with a bit of chaos attached to them.
What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?
Recently, I have been reading about black holes, the possibility of life beyond Earth, and theories about how the universe began. I also recently read the book “To Infinity and Beyond”, which I really enjoyed.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
One thing definitely on my bucket list is to drive an F1 car on a proper race track someday. I have no idea how realistic or possible that is, but it is something I would absolutely love to experience at least once in my life.
